Building the Village Foundation cultivates connected communities where families can thrive. Rooted in the rural communities of Northwestern Vermont, we expand access to programs and resources, create pathways to opportunity, and bring people and organizations together around the needs and possibilities of the places we call home.

We believe families thrive when they are connected- to one another, to the resources they need, and to communities where they belong.

Our work is grounded in a simple idea: no one builds a village alone. By strengthening connections between families, neighbors, businesses, nonprofits, schools, municipalities, faith communities, and service organizations, we can make our communities more accessible, resilient, and full of opportunity for everyone who calls them home.

Because families don't thrive in isolation. They thrive when they have people to turn to, opportunities to grow, and a community where they belong.

Why We Exist

Modern family life can be incredibly isolating. Parents and caregivers are often expected to navigate childcare, work, finances, health, education, and family life without the informal networks of support that communities once provided more naturally.

At the same time, our communities already contain extraordinary resources: neighbors who want to help, organizations doing meaningful work, businesses invested in the places they serve, and people with skills, ideas, and experiences to share.

Building the Village Foundation exists to help connect those pieces.

Rather than approaching families or communities from a place of deficit, we ask: What already exists here? What is missing? Who needs to be connected? And what can we build together?

What We Do

Our work can take many forms because community needs don't fit neatly into one program.

We support accessible programming for children and families, create opportunities for parents and caregivers to build meaningful connections, develop partnerships that help people access resources, and invest in programs that strengthen families and reduce isolation.

We also believe strong communities require opportunity. As we grow, our work will include workforce pathways, skill-building, community partnerships, and other initiatives that help people build stability and participate fully in the communities they call home.

Some programs will be created directly by Building the Village Foundation. Others will happen through partnerships with organizations already doing important work.

We don't need to reinvent good work- we want to help connect, strengthen, and expand it.
